Trio, Cambridge Suites

Image
Trio Restaurant, Cambridge Suites, 380 Esplanade, Sydney The last outing of 2016 took us to Trio on the Esplanade; there were eight of us who celebrated the end of a wonderful year of dining out.  Trio is the exception to the rule! It is a restaurant in a hotel that doesn't serve hotel food; it has been closed - it has been renovated and each time, it's more comfortable; the chef changes and the food retains their high standards and even with reduced hours, people will still line up for a seat. There are no pictures with this posting, dear readers, as Yours Truly enjoyed a glass of wine with friends. Members of the group enjoyed cocktails, a wide variety of flavourful dishes including pasta, lamb, fish and chicken - we ended our evening with selections from a lovely dessert menu. And all of this while sitting in a dining room decorated beautifully for Christmas and while listening to a variety of Christmas music and light pop music that brought back fun memories. Of co

Black Spoon

320 Commercial Street, North Sydney It was a small group of UAG members this month, so we were able to visit a restaurant that has a limited seating capacity and an excellent reputation, the Black Spoon in North Sydney. This restaurant has recently undergone renovations and we can tell you that the new design is lovely. In fact, we can even tell you that the paint colour on the walls is "Venus Teal" and that you can buy the paint at Home Hardware. We are nothing if not thorough diners-out. The problem with the front door was, unfortunately, not remedied. You'll notice that every time the front door opens, a cold breeze blows in as far as the bar at the back of the restaurant.  We can testify to this as that's exactly where we were sitting. But it warms up very quickly again and well, we all have short memories. So, you must be asking yourself - what did the UAG think of the Black Spoon?  We simply loved it. And we were starving when we arrived and ordered

Kitchen 1409

1409 Trans Canada Highway, Bras d'Or Pssst - please keep this on the down-low so that the owners don't get wind of what people are saying and change what it is that they are doing. Because they are doing everything right. Yes, indeed! In fact, you will need reservations to eat here and even to get take-out, well, you'll have a bit of a wait. It'll be one of the friendliest waits you've had, mind you, but still, word is starting to get out there. Eating at the 1409 is like eating at home when Mah has had a really good day; when the pantry has everything in it that she needs and it's been delivered to the back door as fresh as can be. The food is delicious, the portions are huge, and the prices can't be beat. Just look for yourself - a few of the UAG started their meals with tasty selections: Caesar Salad - received very nice comments. Nachos with Spicy Sauce - light & crisp & so tasty! A small bowl of Seafood Chowder - and LOOK

Riverbank Restaurant

856 Grand Mira South Rd, Juniper Mountain Our August outing took us to Grand Mira South to the Mira Cottages, just a bit of a drive out of town - let's let the photographs tell the story. The restaurant is situated on the grounds of a complex that includes several cottages. They were all occupied on the evening of our outing. In fact, the cottages were full, the parking lot was full and the restaurant was almost full! We do recommend making reservations. The front of the restaurant featured the most beautiful flower displays, some in hanging baskets and some in large pots. There was cut wood stacked along the walls of the restaurant, making for a very cozy and aromatic entrance. We were greeted at the door by this display of the menu...do you see the gentleman on the poster? We're going to see him later! There are German dishes on offer, as well as Canadian selections, and beer and wine. And we were lucky enough to be dining on a Friday night, which
