The Casino Again

This turned out to be a lovely still evening, just a day before a massive snow storm hit Cape Breton and left many of us without power for more than 2 days. Talk about the calm before the storm! A large group of us met at the Casino for their Buffet Special. We didn't take any pictures this time as the Casino was packed. But please do see our November 2013 posting for comments and photos.

The dinner selections of the Buffet were served at the back of the restaurant area, while the dessert table was set up along the wall opposite the booths. Once you had your plate in hand, the first offerings were rolls, a couple of cold salads, including potato salad, and coleslaw. These selections were followed by hot mashed potatoes, mashed carrots, a peach chutney, gravy, a minced beef dish, and roast pork loin. Our members commented on how yummy everything was! While we were eating, our waitress, the incredible Georgina, kept our mugs filled with steeped tea or coffee. There was no end to the tea, but sadly gone were the tea pots. And what was for dessert? Well, there were selections of squares, oat cakes, lemon pie, and a caramel cake with sauce that was truly heavenly. There was even a trifle! It was a wonderful old-fashioned selection of our favourite sweets.

Did I mention that the Casino was packed? Well, we all ran into people we knew and in one case, people we hadn't seen in years. The Buffet Special was delicious and the community really appears to be supporting this event. One of our members even had a bit of luck with the machines. Yeah Anne!
