UAG Dines Out

9 Baird Street North Sydney, NS I know that you, our dear readers, have been visiting our blog for a few years now, so I think that we have reached that point at which we can confide in you. Let's put our feet up, sip our tea, and chat. I have to tell you that the Clansmen Motel was not our first choice. Our first choice was ruled out when we visited their website and saw their prices. Quelle surprise! Yes, we are the Up for Anything Group but we're getting wiser with age and our instincts told us to keep looking. And that search led us to the website of the Clansmen Motel - not too far from our first choice, but with a nicely varied menu and prices that would allow us to put gas in the car to drive home. None of us had ever been there and what with it being a Friday, we jumped into our cars and headed to North Sydney. 954 Victoria Road Whitney Pier, NS This month, what with the success of our last adventure, we decided to again visit a community event for dinner. As part of the Whitney Pier annual celebration, Pierscape, the Italian Society offers an Italian buffet; this was their 18th year and because the buffet is always so good, tickets sell out very quickly. We got our tickets three weeks in advance - nine of us planned to attend the dinner and then go up the hill to the high school to view the Pierscape art show and sale. What a dinner! The Italian buffet was set up on a long table that ran the full length of the hall and we all sat at tables on either side. The bar was open and tickets were sold on a painting that some lucky person was going to win that evening. And the buffet? Well, we started at one end and promised ourselves we would only take a little bit from each platter. But by the time we each got to the end of the buffet, our plates were piled high! Dinner Theatre Port Morien Legion This month, the UAG really did have an adventure! A small group of us drove out to the beautiful town of Port Morien to attend an evening of Dinner Theatre at the Legion. When we arrived, the place was hopping - people were finding their seats, visiting the bar, laughing with friends - it was just a fun place to be.  The meal was served by Branch 55 and Friends; it was a home-made roast beef dinner, complete with carrots, turnip, mashed potatoes and gravy to die for. Each of our dinners was hot and delicious.  Dessert was a tall piece of gingerbread with a dollop of cream and a drizzle of sauce. A big Thank You to the people in the kitchen and to those who served the food to each of the tables; it was a wonderful meal. The play followed the meal - the lights went down and we sat back to enjoy "The Lone Star Love Potion", written by Michael Parker. It was an hilarious script that was well-acted. 456 Charlotte Street Sydney, NS You don't have to put any money in the meter after 5:00 pm The UAG has compiled a list of restaurants that we haven't visited yet and this one, Daniel's, was the second on the list. The first restaurant on the list was closed so the staff could enjoy a vacation - we will try and visit that one before too long as we hear their Ginger Beef is out of this world. So what did the group think of Daniel's?  Eight members attended this month's outing so there were lots of opinions. The first thing that you have to know about Daniel's is that it is owned and operated by the same people who own and operate The Bonnie Prince. So that tells you immediately that the service is going to be professional and that the food is going to be good. And it was!
